Cannabis is the genus name of hemp and marijuana plants. The species and strain names can be confusing, but are essentially broken down into three groups/species. Cannabis sativa, Cannabis indica, and the lesser known Cannabis ruderalis (hemp). Delta-9 Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) is the primary psychoactive compound found in Cannabis. To activate the medicinal properties and psychoactive effects of the plant; THC must be ingested by inhalation, sub-lingual contact, and digestion. Cannabinol (CBD), and hundreds of other compounds can also be medically beneficial without the psychoactive effects.

Welcome THCA!! the chemical precursor to Delta-9 THC. As it turns out, Delta-9 THC is only present in cannabis after the THCA molecule is converted into Delta-9 THC. The conversion happens when THCA is "decarboxylated" with the addition of energy/heat. This is a familiar process to the Cannabis chefs out there; cannabis is not psychoactive on it's own. THCA is not a new product, but rather cannabis that is tested without being heated first.
